Goal

The goal of the college is to provide an excellent broad based education with a focus on professional development for the students to equip them with knowledge, skill and attitude necessary not only to address the priority of community but also to acquire a firm basis for future training and studies in medical science.

College Campus

 

The college campus constitutes a major area of the ‘Kumudini Complex’ – the campus of the Kumudini Welfare Trust at Mirzapur with 110 acres of land with greeneries.

College Facilities

Kumudini Women’s Medical College is implementing a well-designed curriculum for MBBS and BDS courses approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. It is well equipped with adequate facilities for utilizing modern and effective instructional teaching-learning methods and aids in accordance with the curriculum. The academic environment nurtures development of faculties for improving quality of education through continuous monitoring and rigorous evaluation system. Physical infrastructure within the college and its affiliated hospital provides appropriate spaces for lecture, demonstrations, tutorials, practical and bed side clinical teaching. It has well equipped laboratories, tutorial rooms for small group discussion and one spacious dissection hall with a museum, library with wide reading room, students’ common room, canteen, and fair price shop.

The main facilities include:

  • Lecture Halls (Four): with Multimedia Sound System, OHP, Slide Projector and Black board/White Board.
  • Tutorial rooms (Sixteen): various departments share the tutorial room according to the class routine.
  • Laboratories (Six): Histology-1, Physiology-1, Biochemistry-1, Pharmacology-1, Pathology-1 and Microbiology-1. All are provided with necessary teaching materials, equipment, microscopes, histology slides, glass wares, reagents etc.
  • Dissection Hall (One): providing arrangements of dissection on four cadavers at a time. It also has space for demonstration arrangement for 110 students divided into four groups in four corners of the big Dissection Hall.
  • Museum (Four): Anatomy-1, Pathology-1, Community Medicine-1 and Forensic Medicine- 1 which contains adequate number of specimen, charts and models.
  • Continued Medical Education Unit.
  • Library.

Library

Kumudini Women’s Medical College library named as Prof. M. A. Jalil Library is situated on the first floor of the college building. It provides seating arrangement for 150 students at a time. It remains open 8:00 am to 9:00 pm on all working days. Qualified librarians and their assistants run the library maintaining a disciplined calm and quiet environment for study. There is a separate reading room for the teachers. The library has sufficient number of academic and reference books of different discipline and specialties. It also has medicine and scientific journals and periodicals including international ones.

All the books are duly indexed and catalogued. The teachers of the Medical College are able to meet the demand for ready references for ongoing research activities. Photocopying is also available at subsidized rate. In addition, the library is also equipped with computers and internet facility for browsing references and e- book, etc.

Students Hostel

The College is fully residential and has adequate residential accommodation for all the enrolled students. It has separate dining rooms, study rooms and club rooms. There are five hostels with a total of 1011 seats. One of the hostels is for the foreign students with refrigerator facilities. A modern hostel complex with six buildings are under constructions with shall accommodate 1440 students.

B. Academic and Disciplinary Council

  • Academic Council comprising teachers of the college and headed by the Principal deliberates and makes recommendation in order to upgrade the curriculum and maintain good academic atmosphere in the college.
  • Disciplinary Council investigates and recommends necessary action to be taken for any act of indiscipline in the campus.

Academic Course: MBBS & BDS

The college offers 5 years MBBS Course and 5 years BDS Course as approved by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council ( BM & DC ) leading to MBBS and BDS Degree of the University of Dhaka. The content and design of the course, subjects, lecture classes, tutorials and laboratory/ practical classes are approved by University of Dhaka in accordance with the curriculum laid by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM & DC).

Course Curriculum: MBBS

 

Duration:  5 years Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with additional one year internship training.

Examinations:

  • The MBBS degree requires 5 years of academic course followed by one year of internship in the affiliated hospital.
  • Four Professional Examinations are conducted by the University of Dhaka.
  • The Professional MBBS Examinations (1st, 2nd, 3rd & Final Professional) occur either on first week of May or November in each year as per new curriculum.
  • Each subject under the course is the divided into certain number of items and cards examination. To appear at the professional examinations all students have to complete the assigned cards.
  • Pass mark for University examination for written, oral and practical / clinical examinations is 60% individually.
  • Student passing in the regular MBBS Examination will be eligible to obtain honors  ( 85% marks ) and place (up to 10th place ) in order of merit.

 

Local Examination: 

After completion of cards students in pre and para clinical subjects have to appear in term examinations periodically. Similarly, clinical students have to complete items followed by ward completion examinations. Finally, before placement for university professional examinations all students have to appear in pre -professional Examination in each phase.

 

End-course Examination:

The University of Dhaka conducts four professional examinations both for the 5 year MBBS course and 5 years BDS Course.

 

Field Activities: 

The 3rd yr MBBS students have to complete one month COME (Community Oriented Medical Education) as follows:

  • RFST (Residential Field Site Training) for 10 days.
  • Day Visit (at least 8 visits to be performed) for 10 days.
  • Study Tour (to observe different national health related organizations) for 10 days.

University (Professional) Examination:

  • 10% marks of written examination of each paper for each subject is allocated for formative assessment.
  • 20% marks are allocated for MCQ for each paper. There are separate answer scripts for MCQ examination.
  • 70% marks are allocated for SAQ (Short Answer Question) in all subjects (except in Community Medicine) for each paper. Final professional OSPE examinations are conducted by University of Dhaka on the same date and time.

Internship MBBS
 
Internship training is an integral part of medical education and accredited by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC). After passing the final MBBS examination of the University of Dhaka, a graduate has to undergo one year internship in Kumudini Women’s Medical College Hospital. After successful completion of internship all interns will be eligible to receive registration from BM&DC.

Disciplinary Rules

  • Students must maintain discipline inside the complex.
  • Rising of slogan, shouting, parading in procession are all strictly prohibited.
  • Addiction to drug and alcohol abuse amounts to moral turpitude and such offenders are liable to expulsion from the college.
  • Students are required to observe order and discipline strictly at all times in the college.
  • Political activities are strictly prohibited.
  • Students must behave properly with staff, employees of the college/hostel, acts of misbehavior are liable to disciplinary action.
  • At the time of admission both the student and their respective guardian will have to sign a bond agreeing to abide by the rules and regulations of the college.
  • Strict cleanliness is to be maintained all through the campus. Students are to refrain from plucking flowers and damaging fruit plants.
  • Students are not to disturb or interfere in the affairs of other institutions within the complex.

Accommodation Rules

The college is fully residential. All students admitted to this college must reside in the allotted students hostel .The Principal in special cases may allow any student to reside outside with their parents or guardian for a short duration. Any change of guardianship or changes of lodging by any student must be reported forthwith to the college authority. It is compulsory that students take their food in the hostel mess.

Extracurricular Activities

Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities for the promotion and development of individual talents, physical and mental health. The college provides such activities though Student Welfare Committee by arranging week long literary and culture festival like staging of drama, debates, indoor and outdoor games. Moreover, humanitarian services such as blood donation, free clothes distribution amongst the distressed during natural calamities and financial donation to affected students/people for their treatment are encouraged.
