Introduction

About SMAMC

Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College, Hospital and the Nursing Institute are the noble ventures of Shaheed monsur Ali Trust. This conglomerate is offering medical education and research, health care services and nursing education which contribute enormously to the health sector of the country. The complex is situated at Sector no 11,Uttara , a relentlessly flourishing zone of the capital city Dhaka. The river ‘Turag’ flows beside the campus of the college adding an unlimited fervor to the scenic beauty.

The Academic building of the college is built on its own land having spacious classrooms, lecture galleries, practical classrooms ,departmental museums, library, reading rooms etc. It also accommodates a cafeteria and separate common rooms for male and female students having facilities for indoor games. There are separate hostels for boys & girls. Students have facilities for outdoor games as well. The college is approved by the government of Bangladesh . It is affiliated with Dhaka University. It enjoys the recognition of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) . The college has already attained adorable standard  to clinch the recognition of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons(BCPS) in regard to post graduate training in various subjects in the college.

Basic medical subjects –Anatomy ,Physiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology , Pharmacology  and clinical subjects –Medicine including psychiatry and dermatology ,Surgery including ophthalmology and clinical subjects –medicine including psychiatry and dermatology, Surgery including ophthalmology and otolaryngology and Gynecology  and Obstetrics are taught during 5 years MBBS course. The college has fulfilled all the criteria set by the affiliating and approving authority regarding the quality and number of teachers like Professors ,Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. The administration and the teachers are much caring and pay due attention to all the needs of the students so that the students find the atmosphere favorable  and homely. The Board of trustees and the governing body keep constant vigilance on the development of the college which is evidenced by its uplift.

The College has admitted 26 batches of students since its inception of which 22 batches of students have already completed their MBBS course and serving the nation as efficient doctor. The hospital is situated just beside the College building. It is a 740 bedded hospital with all modern amenities offering emergency, outdoor and indoor services round the clock (24/7)

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:

  1. Both Bangladeshi and Foreign students are eligible to apply.
  2.  Candidates must have passed SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations having Physics. Chemistry  and Biology as subjects and at least GPA 9.00 combinedly in SSC and HSC but minimum SPA 3.50 in Biology in HSC.
  3. Both Bangladeshi and Foreign students having 0-level and A-level or equivalent qualifications have to apply with certificate of equivalence issued from the office of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Government of Bangladesh.
  4. Candidates who have passed SSC or equivalent examination in 2018 or 2019 and HSC or equivalent examination in 2019 or 2020 are eligible to apply. Candidates passed SSC or equivalent Examination before 2018 are not eligible.
  5. The name of the candidate must be present in the list of eligible candidates published by the office of the DGHS on the basis of the admission test conducted  by DGHS and the grade obtained in SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations.
  6.  All Tribal and Non-tribal Hill district candidates must have at least SPA 8.00. No application will be considered if the SPA is less than 3.50 in any of the exams.

Admission Test:

  1. a) Eligible Bangladesh students will have to appear into a written examination of 100 marks in MC4 format based conducted by the Directorate General of  Health Services of Bangladesh (DGHS).
  2. b) Foreign students are exempted from written admission test but they will have to follow the procedures determined by the DGHS of Bangladesh.

Selection of Candidates:

The list of eligible candidates will be published by the office of the Directorate General of Health Services of Bangladesh (DGHS). The eligibility for admission will be determined on the basis of written admission test and SPA obtained in SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations (According to rules & conditions of DHGS). The candidates selected for non-government medical colleges (by option) have to apply to Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College for admission with following documents. The students will be admitted on merit basis.

Medical Fitness Test:

All provisionally selected candidates by Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College will have to undergo medical fitness test done by a medical board constituted by the Principal of the college. Any candidate having gross physical disability or color blindness etc. is generally considered unfit for admission.

Application in prescribed form supported by the following documents to be submitted by the candidate:

  1. a) Online Admit Card, Online Student's Copy and Online Result Sheet.
  2. b) Attested photocopy of Mark Sheets or Academic Transcripts of SSC and HSC or Equivalent Examinations.
  3. c) Attested photocopy of Certificate of SSC or Equivalent Examination.
  4. d) Attested photocopy of Certificate or Testimonial of HSC or Equivalent Examination.
  5. e) Four (04) copies of recent passport size coloured Photographs duly attested.
  6. f) Nationality Certificate. From the Chairman of the Union Parisad or Ward Councilor of Pourashava ot City Corporation.
  7. g) Attested photocopies of relevant documents as per the requirements of DGHS for the Freedom Fighter & Tribal quota.

(NB: Photocopy of documents must be attested by Competent Authorities.)

The Curriculum for MBBS
Basic information about MBBS course:

  1. NAME OF THE COURSE: Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
  2. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS & PREREQUISITE FOR ENTRANCE IN MBBS COURSE:
    • HSC or equivalent with Science.(Biology, Physics, Chemistry)
    • Candidate has to secure required grade point in the SSC and HSC examinations.
  3. STUDENTS SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR MBBS COURSE: According to decision by the proper competent authority as per merit.
  4. MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: English
  5. DURATION: MBBS course comprises of 5 Years, followed by logbook based rotatory internship for one year.
