About TMSS Medical College
TMC_Academic_BuilidngTMSS came into existence for the wellbeing of unprivileged, discriminated, neglected, exploited and oppressed people. Medical facility is the most important one among the basic human needs. Access to good medical treatment by the neglected and unprivileged people has become dearth now. TMSS had long felt the need of adding a Medical College to the many educational and social welfare institutions through which, over the years it has served the country. TMSS Medical College (TMC) has been established in the year 2008 as a constituent program of TMSS to build a strong health service provider.

Despite three decade’s continuous endeavors of thousands of renowned NGOs for the country’s grassroots level comprehensive development, the achievement of the NGOs appeared to many of the Economist as truffle and negligible because lack of backward & forward linkage and scope. TMSS is non-profit organization and the philosophy of this organization is philanthropic.

In order to address the problems in achieving the aim of TMSS and to solidify the main philosophy, the noble commitment which TMSS made to contribute its efforts in Health Sector through establishment and operation of three Medical Technology Institutes, one Nursing College, Three Medical Assistant Training School, two Community Paramedic Institutes, One Ayurvedic Unani Medical College & Hospital and TMSS Medical College which are approved by the Government. Because of this we are expressing our gratitude to the Government and thankfulness to the Almighty Allah.

Education is the most important component for the development of the human being-the best among the entire creation. In the present time many have considered Education as business where TMSS is the exception. Keeping the fluency and sustainability of education the all-out encleavours of TMSS is mainly concerned only to the enhancement of quality & standard of education. This will refrain the entrepreneurs from personal economic gains, rather the money could be used for the procurement of educational materials, building-up student and Teachers satisfaction. The satisfaction of service provider ensures achievement of quality and standard of service. Job satisfaction is also favorable for institutional sustainability.

Over the years, TMC has maintained its reputation as a leading educator of highly competent physicians, dentists, biomedical scientists, public health practitioners and allied health professionals. Today TMSS Medical College is the largest private institution in the Northern Bangladesh dedicated exclusively to educating health care professionals and biomedical scientists. Each session, the College serves 145 students in MBBS course and 50 students in BDS course in its Graduate Studies.

The establishment of a medical college imparting medical education leading to recognized medical degree was taken as the first and foremost aim of the college. Through the tireless efforts of the Chairperson and other Founder Members the dream was realized against much opposition when permission was accorded by the Government of Bangladesh.

TMSS Medical College started functioning from 2008 and TMSS Medical College Dental Unit started functioning from 2012. With the permission of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOH&FW), Rajshahi University granted affiliation to the College (now the college is affiliated with Rajshahi Medical University) and Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BM&DC) has recognized the College.

Now the college has an academic building on with adequate facilities. It has now been possible to accommodate most of the departments in more spacious place. The attached TMSS Medical College & Rafatullah Community Hospital is a tertiary care referral medical facility and provides excellent training to students and junior doctors. TMC & RCH has post-graduate training facilities for Medicine, Surgery, Gynae & Obstetrics, Paediatric, Radiology & Imaging and Anesthesiology discipline which are recognized by Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). The Hospital has arrangements for 750 inpatients. The construction of 1000 bedded hospital is in progress.

It is well equipped and provides quality health care to the public at reasonable cost. The entire hospital staff is dedicated to excellence and service round the clock on shifting basis.

Academic Facilities

TMC provides magnificent and comprehensive range of facilities within the college campus to expand the knowledge and learning of the students. Authority believes that an eminent, representative and ideal academic environment is essential for the overall growth of a student. Along with the experienced faculty, college with admirable infrastructure that not only well accommodate the students but also adds a new dimension in their learning. All modern amenities at every level is available to make learning a hassle free experience for the students.

Labs and Museums
TMC has advanced and modernized laboratory facilities for all levels: Basic, Pre-clinical and clinical.

i. Basic Subjects
Phase I: Anatomy Dissection Hall and Museum, Physiology Lab and Biochemistry Lab.
ii. Pre-clinical
Phase II: Community Medicine Museum, Forensic Medicine Museum.
Phase III: Pharmacology Lab, Pathology Lab, Microbiology Lab and Serology & Immunology, Histopathology & Cytology Lab.

iii. Clinical
TMC’s teaching hospital having 750 bed and equipped with all modernized equipment and facilities and varieties of profile of cases are admitted here in all disciplines. Hospital has skill’s lab for the skills development of the trainee doctors, nurses, a paramedics and students also. This is an unique facilities among the Government and Non-Government Medical Colleges.

Library
The Central Library at TMC aims to provide support for the Medical College’s learning, teaching and research activities. The library supports the curriculum and research needs of the college community through the development of pertinent collections and the provision of services designed to facilitate access to information and learning.

The Library house approximately 4,929 books of 617 titles, 511 local journals and 86 international journals in its collection and has access to about 20 online journals.

The Central Library is fully air-conditioned with floor area of 7000 sq ft. The library has separate reading areas for student and teachers; it also has e-library facility with broadband internet and Wi-Fi connectivity. Photocopy facility is also available in the library. Library hour is from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm (or schedule announce by the college authority.

Classrooms and Lecture Gallery Complex
TMC has classrooms of various sizes, ranging from regular ones that can hold 30-50 seats, to large ones (Lecture hall) with a capacity of 250-450 seats. Smaller classrooms are used for the purpose of tutorial and practical classes, small group teaching etc. Each class room is equipped with multimedia projectors, overhead projectors and Wi-Fi connectivity.

TMC has separate lecture gallery complex adjacent to the academic building. There are five big lecture gallery having 250-350 seat capacity and each of the which are equipped with modern sound system , multimedia projectors and computers with the access to the Internet and Wi-Fi connectivity.

There is also a modern seminar hall with 360 seat capacity and an exclusive Examination hall.

Medical Skill Center / Skill Lab

There is a Medical Skill Center in academic building and there is also another Medical Skill Lab in hospital. Students and faculty members can use the Skill lab and Skill center to practice and enhance their technical skills there.

Medical Education Unit (MEU)
Medical Education Unit (MEU) has been already established to ensure Quality Assurance in medical education. The functions of MEU include conducting educational research, arranging workshops, facilitate in students evaluation by teachers and teachers evaluation by students, preparing report on Quality Assurance Scheme quarterly & annually, assist in extra-curricular activities (cultural program, Magazine publication), career development of academic staff etc. The MEU also takes care of upgrading and systematizing the process of student assessment in knowledge, skills and attitudinal aspects. By providing specialized resources for teaching, service and a focus on educational research, it is essential to the continued development of medical education as a discipline. The annual report of Colleges is also prepared by MEU and further Academic improvement has been done accordingly by this unit.

Accommodation Facilities
TMC has separate hostel facilities for male, female, foreign & local students and intern doctors. Even it has separate dormitory and family quarter for resident doctors and teacher. All of the hostels have Wi-Fi connectivity. The hostels have common dining area; TV room and Indoor games facilities, with provisions for playing table tennis , carom, ludo and chess. The hostels also have separate reading room and prayer room.

Common Rooms

In the academic building of TMC, there have separate common rooms for male and female students with provision for indoor games such as carom and chess and sufficient seats where students can lounge around and enjoy their leisure period.

There are common rooms in hospital and hostels also.

Transport Facilities

TMC has special transport facilities for the students, staff and faculty members. It has separate shuttle bus service for the students and faculties from college to downtown.

Post-graduate Training Programs
TMSS Medical College & Rafatullah Community Hospital (TMC & RCH) has post-graduate training facilities for Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Radiology & Imaging, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery disciplines which are recognized by Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). After completing the undergraduate course MBBS, interested doctors need complete post-graduate training in specific field of interest as a requirement of doing post-graduation course like post-graduate diplomas, MD and FCPS in specialized fields.

Post-graduation Course
The Post Graduate DBS&T course in the department of Transfusion Medicine at TMSS Medical College is approved by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Permission has been granted for the admission of 05 (Five) students from the July-2022 session. Application for opening post-graduation course in other departments are also being processed.

Broad Band Internet and WiFi
Whole TMC campus and hospital is covered with broad band internet and Wifi internet access. All male & female hostel also covered with WiFi internet access.

Sports & Gym
TMC has both indoor and out-door sport facilities. Indoor games includes: Chess, Carrom, Table Tennis, Scrabble, etc. and out-door games includes: Football, Cricket, basketball etc. Indoor game facilities are also available in both Boys & Girls Student Hostels. TMC has gymnasium facilities for its students.

Co-Curricular Activities
It is not obligatory that learning can only occur in the classroom. TMC authority strongly believes that Co-curricular Activities can also play a significant role to develop well learned professionals and can also play critical role in the process of enhancing student’s college career. Thus, College emphasizes to the different kinds of co-curricular activities i.e. sports, students week, study tour, day visit and OCC visit etc. along with the academic activities. A brief summary of co-curricular activities have mentioned in the following section. The students also maintain some club like medicine club, blood donation club photographic club, cultural club, debate club etc.

Student Week
Every year TMC arrange a weeklong celebration of sports and cultural competition among the students, staff and faculties. As a part of extracurricular activities TMC initiates several sport activities in a calendar year. Namely Students week Celebration, inter & Intra institute Foot-ball and cricket tournament, native sports activities during various national day celebrations.

Special Day Celebration
Every year according to the calendar, Special Days are celebrated and observed with active participation of the students and faculties, like Birth Day of Father of Nation, Bangla New Year Celebration, Independence Day Celebration, National Day of Mourning, Victory Day Celebration, World Health Day Celebration etc.

Internship Program

Student Guidance/Counseling
Proper Institutional guidance is still essential in all educations particularly in medical science to meet challenges of the world. Teachers are always keen to provide such guidance. A batch of student is placed under a teacher to help and guide students in academic matters like studies, examination, attendance and conduct. Students are advised to meet their Guide Teacher themselves or whenever asked by the Guide Teacher. TMC has a Counselling Committee to improve academic activities for irregular students.
